Knights Stay Hot After Winter Break

The Knights came back from the winterbreak with one thing on their minds;no let downs. Last years Knights squad came back from thebreak in first place just like thisteam only to see it slip away in the last two games of the year. This years team was bound and determined to make sure they didn't see a repeat from last year, especially the veteran players.

Determined to take care of business, the Knights came back from the winterbreak on fire by sweeping the Charleston Wolverines in their first weekend back with impressive 13-0 and 9-1 wins to start off the new year. The next weekend was the big showdown with the Space Coast Hurricanes. It may have been early in the year for the Knights, but they already had a chance to clinch the Met South regular season championship with a sweep of the Space Coast Hurricanes. The Knights did justthat with gritty 4-1 and 2-0 victories asthe Knights clinched the regular season championship and got the monkey off the back of all of the returning Knights that saw it allslip away in the last weekend of the year last season.

The Knights now will gear up several more important weekends against rival Hampton Roads Whalers and the East Coast Eagles. In between the needed home weekends, the Knights will travel to Boston for the MJHL Winter Showcase where the Knights will play 3 games against teams from the north. With these weekends complete the Knights will gear up for hopefully a long playoff run with the ultimate goal of raising the cup to bring home their first national championship. The Knights resume action this weekend against Hampton Roads in a conference battle.

The Knights saw their hopes of a Met League Championship disappear right in front of their eyes at home on the last weekend of the year last year when Hampton swept the knights to capture the title for themselves. Things were a little different this year as the Knights went into Hampton and swept them to start of the young 2009 hockey campaign.
Game one saw the Knights special teams take control scoring three power play goals and one shorthanded goal to take a 4-1 victory. Trevor Cope with 2 goals and 2 assists, Nick Karstens with a goal and 2 assists and Lansdowne with a goal and an assist it was if the Whalers couldn’t stop these three.
Game three was an absolute whitewashing as the Knights poured it on winning 9-0. Cody Durrwachter and Nick Dillaway both picked up two goals with the rest of the scoring spread around between all of the Knights. The Knights remain undefeated and will have two weeks off before they go to Charleston.
